Winter Yarn Wreath Tutorial

Winter Yarn Wreath Tutorial

I kept my crafting to a minimum this holiday season, but one thing I couldn’t pass up doing was making my own wreaths to use as decor.

Like most of my crafts, it’s very simple to do yourself, and doesn’t cost much either!

Because I wanted to create a winter wonderland inside my house, I went looking for items that would represent snow, and wouldn’t you know it, I ran across this beautiful chunky yarn at Michael’s on sale!

Perfect!

My first thought was to use it as a garland on my tree, and so I did, but I was left with a couple of extra skeins just begging to be used and not returned.  That’s when I remembered that I had a foam wreath form in storage that would look beautiful wrapped with this yarn, and I think I was right!

Here are the supplies you’ll need to make one for yourself:

I skeen of Chunky Yarn like this one, and this one.

A Glue Gun, and Glue Sticks

Decoration of Choice-I used a handmade bows on mine, but you could always buy a pre-made bow like this one if the thought making one doesn’t appeal to you.

Simply attach one end of the yarn to the foam wreath using hot glue. Proceed to wrap the yarn around the foam form, gluing every fifth wrap down to the form. Once you have wrapped it completely leave about five inches of yarn to create a built in hanging mechanism. All you have to do is make a loop and glue it down.  Once the glue is dry it’s ready for embellishment!

The best part about making such a wreath is that you can dress it up as you please.  Since, I wanted to keep it simple I made a couple of bows out of ribbon I had on hand following a tutorial I found on Pinterest.   Each ribbon gave the wreath a different feel, which I love!

Thank you Maryann! I was ready for a change this year and went for it. Glad I did, but I couldn’t help but bring in some color. Check back in with us on Friday to see our upstairs decorations. 🙂

I’ve made tons of these yarn wreaths, (and fleece wrapped ones too,) and I use pins rather than glue so that if I later want to take them apart, it’s easy peasy!
